Pit Master Ed Mitchell of The Pit in Raleigh, NC. Specialty - Whole Hogs!!!
Stubbs from Austin, Texas!
On the way to Madison Square Park to watch the kick off of the BBQ festival this weekend. I LOVE this event! I love to go the night before and watch them arrive with their pits and set up for the craziness that engulfs the weekend in the park. Then I love to go over in the morning and see everything that was smoked all night. I can smell the BBQ when I walk out of the door of my apartment as I only live 3 blocks from the park. I stood and basked in the smoke from The Pit's whole hog pit's this morning bringing home the smell of smoke in my hair. Mmmmmmmmmm. Everyone is super happy, friendly and excited to kick off the day and sell their specialties. All proceeds go the beautification of Madison Square Park!!! WOW. Thank you Danny Meyer for bringing all these fabulous people to New York. It is best to go early or get fast passes as the lines are forever, the crowds can be overwhelming and often the pit masters cannot anticipate the crowds meaning food runs out before 7PM. Not to worry as there is always more later. Enjoy!
