These Faces Made Me Smile Today

A glorious day and reprieve from the deep freeze we have been living in for the past month or so! Everyone is happy! Madison Square Park, New York City.

Crangi Fabulosity

I am a huge fan of Philip Crangi and have been for a long while now. I love his new store at No 9 Ninth Ave. And Miss Sherry (part of the Crangi family) is lovely! Run - there - now, don't walk!

Brooklyn Flea

The Brooklyn Flea debuted in 2010 on January 9-10 at One Hanson Place in an old bank. I HIGHLY recommend going to see this amazing and beautiful derelict building! It is spectacular!!! The artistry involved in creating this space leaves one longing for these long gone days of honor and integrity. I have to say I was overwhelmed by the freezing cold and the sheer genius of the space. I will go back and get more images. There were too many details to focus on. The gorgeous stone floors in a thousand different designs. The glittery and pretty tile mosaic ceilings. The snack court is downstairs in the vault! The doors were 8' x 5' thick solid steel. Super cool. I will go early next time to get a lot more and better images. I couldn't even focus on the items being sold as I was so transfixed by all the stone and trying to stay warm. I love the old and grand buildings in New York.

Snip N Sip

On the corner of Waverly and Charles. Snip N Sip has always been a curiosity to me and so I decided to drop in and check it out. They were very nice if not a bit odd and off putting as we did not have an appointment and were just looking around with the camera. I love the way this place looks and feels. There are a lot of these retro looking "beauty parlors and barber shops" in the city but this one definitely has retained the integrity of the simpler and quieter days gone by. I did a little more research about the Snip N Sip and it seems they are quite good and cut and color. Perhaps I will one day see about their services. They keep the door locked and they shooed us away rather quickly and not really giving away much information. There was only one person in there getting a service and I have never seen it super busy when walking by. They do awesome holiday windows. Always a bit off and a wee bit irreverent.

Texture

Grahame Fowler on 10th Street just next to The Highlands and Three Lives. Great little store with newly produced shirts, scarves, sweaters, blankets and trousers all made to look as though it has been around for decades. Grahame Fowler has quite the repertoire. This store has wonderful vintage photography and current art as well as old Vespas and car and motorcycle paraphernalia to accompany the layered and textured look. Great men's store.
